Job Title: TDM Peer Supporter

Job Description

Peer support is based on a relationship of common experience. As a mental health Peer Supporter you will have lived experience of mental health challenge with/without substance use recovery and share that journey of hope with your peer in a way that is relevant to recovery. Effective peer support adheres to the philosophy that everyone has the capacity to learn, grow, and change, and can have a life worth living on their own terms. The Peer Supporter is well into their own mental health recovery, uses healthy self-management strategies, and has excellent active listening skills. They offer guidance and links to the full range of community resources and provide emotional support that is empathetic, genuine, encouraging, and non-judgmental. MHRP works from a recovery-oriented perspective.

Highlight of Duties and Responsibilities

The Peer Supporter will be working an average of 15-20 hours per week at $20.46/hour to provide mental health peer support to individuals who are in the hospital and assist in transition and linking to community post discharge. The work locations will be at Royal Jubilee Hospital, at Mental Health Recovery Partners and in the general community. The Peer Supporter will also be responsible to lead small groups and co-facilitate Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups with another trained facilitator. If you do not have WRAP training, you would agree to become trained in WRAP at the earliest possibility. Knowledge of the local resources is a definite asset.
